It goes to the credit of Mr. Omar H. Karim, the convener of Commecs that he floated the idea of a common forum of old students to Irfan Nadeem and M. Arif Dossal in 1971. Soon Arif Habib was roped in and the foursome set about in establishing an association. The first few years were tough. Hardly out of student life, with sparse funds, the early committees succeeded purely due to dint of effort (to the point of stubbornness) as well as the support of their first patron, Prof N.A. Farooqui and the President of COMMECS, Prof. S. I. A. Subzwari.
After the first few years of get-together’s, family fun programs, and other entertainment efforts, the members of COMMECS began to think constructively. We had receive so much from our dear, beloved and respected mentors, that that it was felt that the best way to repay this debt would be to take up the cause of education, particularly in the field of Business and Management Sciences.
Efforts were made and a plot of land was allotted by the Chief Minister of Sindh, Ghouse Ali Shah for a business college. The foundation stone was laid by the then mayor of Karachi, Mr. Farooq Sattar and after completion of the construction, the formal opening of the college was done by Hakeem Mohammad Saeed, the Governor of Sindh.
The Alumni of COMMECS is one of the very few to have taken up cutgels against the deteriorating standards of educations. It has been laid by a number of stalwarts of the Alumni of the Govt. College of Commerce and Economics. It’s Leader have led the Association towards growth in social and educational fields.
